Cricket on the Village Green

So apparently it is summer in England! It has been a rainy few months since we last talked about the weather (back in early May), but every now and then the sun comes out and we have a day, or at least a few hours, of beautiful sunshine and blue sky. Yesterday was one of those days. Today is not.

A couple of weekends ago, I purchased a desk off Ebay (The worldwide equivalent of Trade Me) and we headed out to the countryside to collect it from the owner. What luck - it was one of those gorgeous days with a few hours of sunshine and blue sky. We drove to a little country village called Meopham (Good luck pronouncing that one...) and what do you know, there was a game of cricket being played on the village green. Bliss!

We sat and watched for just over an hour and then ate a fish and chip tea overlooking the beautiful Kent countryside. We could even hear birds! Aah, the countryside... Now this is the England I dream of.

Hopefully we can plan some more trips to the country over the next few months. It really is wonderful to smell the fresh air, see the vivid colours of the flowers and trees, and to hear the sounds of peace and quiet and birdsong.
